James Tobias admitted firing seven shots at Hannibal apartment

A Hannibal man, charged with several felonies after he allegedly fired several shots at a Hannibal apartment Friday night, will be in court later this week.

A Friday arraignment date for James Tobias in Marion County Associate Court was set Monday. He's facing charges of unlawful use of a weapon, possession of a weapon while in possession of hydrocodone, possession of hydrocodone and possession of marijuana with intent to deliver. In a probable cause statement filed Saturday, Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton says Tobias admitted to Hannibal police that he fired seven shots from a 40 caliber Glock from his truck at an apartment on Chloe Place. Tobias said that a man at the apartment had twice broken into his home, and he went there to fight him. Officers later found Tobias, and the hydrocone in his sock. They later searched Tobias's apartment and say they found cocaine, marijuana and items related to drug sales. Police also found several other guns including an AK-47 style rifle, AR-15s, shotguns and pistols. Over 25 thousand dollars in cash was also seized, which Clayton says he plans to confiscate and turn over to local schools.

Tobias is in the Marion County jail on $100,000 cash-only bond, and if convicted on all counts, could get up to 27 years in prison.
