Heat Advisory for this weekend

Heat Advisory for this weekend

5 years, 10 months ago by Scott Hardy

Heat Index could reach 103

The weekend is shaping up to be a very hot one for the WTAD listening area.

The National Weather Service has declared a Heat Advisory from Noon Friday through 8 PM Monday night for the entire listening area. The Weather Service says that a dangerous combination of heat and humidity will move into the area beginning Friday afternoon and continue at least through early Monday evening. Little relief from the heat and humidity is expected during the night. In its' Advisory, the Weather Service says that heat index values could reach 103 due to temperatures in the 90s, and dewpoints in the lower 70s. The hotter temps mean there's an increased risk of heat-related stress and illness, especially for the very young, the elderly, those without air conditioning, and those taking part in strenuous outdoor activities. People are advised to avoid poorly ventilated areas and prolonged work in the sun. Also, keep plenty of liquids on hand and try to stay in an air conditioned environment.

If you're going to be outside for an extended length of time, wear light weight and loose fitting clothing when possible and drink plenty of water.
