Corn and soybean harvest continues to make rapid progress, with some operators finished and moving on to fall field activities. Statewide, the average temperature was 61.5 degrees, 0.4 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.63 inches, 0.02 inches below normal. There were 5.2 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending October 2. Topsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 2 percent short, 86 percent adequate, and 11 percent surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated at 1 percent very short, 3 percent short, 88 percent adequate, and 8 percent surplus. Corn mature increased to 97 percent, compared to 89 percent for the 5-year average. Corn harvest was 43 percent complete, compared to 44 percent last year. Corn condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 14 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 26 percent excellent. Soybeans coloring increased to 94 percent, compared to 94 percent last year. Soybeans dropping leaves increased to 80 percent, compared to 79 percent for the 5-year average. Soybean harvest was 16 percent complete, compared to 42 percent last year. Soybean condition was rated 2 percent very poor, 3 percent poor, 15 percent fair, 56 percent good, and 24 percent excellent. Winter wheat planted was at 6 percent, compared to 12 percent for the 5-year average. Pasture and range condition was rated 1 percent very poor, 2 percent poor, 20 percent fair, 58 percent good, and 19 percent excellent.
