Turned down plea deal at Wednesday afternoon hearing
A Quincy man, one of two men indicted on charges in connection with a mid-March shooting at a Quincy apartment complex, will take his chances at trial next month after turning down a plea deal Wednesday.
Louis Jenkins was in Adams County Circuit Court for a status hearing on Class X counts of attempted murder and aggravated battery, and one count of aggravated discharge of a firearm. The hearing was delayed for 20 minutes, while Jenkins had a possible plea settlement explained to him. However, he turned down the offer, and is still set to go on trial August 13th. A second defendant, Christopher Beaver of Hammond, Indiana, will also go be tried on similar charges August 13th. Both men are accused of taking part in the early-morning shooting at an apartment in the Country Club Heights complex near 31st and State. Harvey Robinson,Jr. was shot several times, and suffered non-life-threatening injuries.
Jenkins is in the Adams County Jail on $1 million bond, while Beaver's being held on $2 million bond. If convicted, both men could serve up to 80 years in prison.
