Six-member panel formed to help choose successor

The lead trial attorney in the Adams County State's Attorney's Office wants to be on the bench.

Josh Jones is one of nine applicants who want to replace retiring Illinois 8th Judicial Circuit Judge Mark Drummond, who's retiring August 5th. That's according to a release sent Wednesday by the Illinois Supreme Court. Along with Jones, Chris Pratt and Babette Brennan with the Public Defender's Office, and Quincy City Attorney Ryan Schnack have also applied for the position. All nine candidates will go in front of a screening committee formed by the state Supreme Court. The six-member panel includes former 8th Circuit Chief Judge Diane Lagoski and Reverend Orville Jones. Once interviews are completed, the panel will submit a recommendation to the state Supreme Court.

Drummond's successor would serve through the November 2020 election.
