Online enrollment has helped, up 49%

John Wood Community College's Board of Trustees learned Wednesday night that the college’s spring enrollment is defying a state trend of declining enrollment.

The Board learned that from 2014 to 2018, JWCC was one of only four of 48 community colleges in Illinois to have steady or increased spring semester enrollment. John Wood gained five students over the four-year period, while other Illinois community colleges had a 15 percent decrease. In a statement, the college says that online enrollment has helped JWCC beat the statewide trend. Over the last four years spring online enrollment at JWCC has increased 49%. That's the fourth largest increase among community colleges statewide.

In the last few months, JWCC's launched several initiatives to grow enrollment, including adding men’s and women’s soccer and women’s volleyball programs. They've also introduced a Missouri Plus Scholarship for high school students in counties bordering JWCC’s district and a Smart Start 2x2 Program to help high achieving students complete their first two years of college before graduating high school.
