Gave over $444,000 in last fiscal year

John Wood Community College is getting more financial support than ever from its' Foundation.

That's what the JWCC Board of Trustees heard Wednesday night when they met at the Agricultural Education Center in Baylis. They learned that during the 2018 fiscal year, the Foundation provided over $444,000 in direct support to JWCC. That was in the form of private donations and grants for scholarships, special projects and operations. Private support also funded $45,000 in upgrades to the Student Activity Center and a $33,000 grant from the Marion Gardner Jackson Trust let the College upgrade five classrooms in the Science and Technology Center. In a statement, JWCC President Michael Elbe says that private financial support "will become increasingly important as the college focuses on future growth and workforce needs in the region."

The JWCC Board also accepted over $132,000 in grant funding from the Illinois Community College Board Perkins program. That money will be used for tutoring, equipment and instructional supplies for students in five different programs.
