Brian Martin pleads Guilty Tuesday to Drug Trafficking, Distribution charges

A Kansas City man, who earlier pleaded Not Guilty to two drug charges after a fight in Hannibal in early October, has changed his plea and is going to prison.

52 year old Brian Martin was in Marion County Circuit Court Tuesday, where he entered Guilty pleas on counts of Drug Trafficking near a school and Drug Distribution. Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton announced the plea, saying that after the pleas, Martin was sentenced to 20 years in prison on the Drug Trafficking count, and 15 years on the Distribution count. The sentences will be served concurrently. Had the case gone to trial, Martin could have gotten up to 30 years if convicted. Police reports say Martin and another man got into a fight in the 900 block of Lyon Street last October. After the fight, according to Clayton, 77 grams of meth were found in a vehicle Martin was in. In a statement, Clayton said “This sends a clear message that those apprehended for bringing in large amounts of controlled substances into our community will face a lengthy prison sentence."

Clayton says that Martin faces prison time in Kansas, after he serves his Missouri sentence.
