Keller to resign as Adams County Coroner

Keller to resign as Adams County Coroner

5 years, 10 months ago by Scott Hardy

Wants to spend more time with family; effective July 10

Adams County Coroner Jim Keller announced Wednesday that he'll resign next month.

In a statement, Keller said that he'd resign effective July 10th. In his resignation letter, Keller said that although his term runs until 2020, he feels it's time to step down. Keller said “After much consideration, my family and I have decided we need to focus on spending more quality time together, and that requires me to return to a regular schedule.” Keller added that he's "thankful for the great people who supported me along the way.” Adams County Chairman Les Post is quoted in the statement as saying he's saddened to learn of Keller’s resignation, but understood that family is a priority.

The resignation comes a week after the Adams County Board revised a policy on how it would handle indigent deaths. Keller came under fire after an Associated Press story about the county's policy, where it took possession of a deceased body if the family couldn't pay for a burial. Several families said they were denied their loved ones' ashes and a death certificate until they could pay the County $1,000.
