Scott Walsh convicted on child sex count involving Shelby County youth

Federal prosecutors say that a Kirksville man has been sentenced to 20 years in prison on a child porn charge in Shelby and Adair counties.

The Eastern Missouri U.S. Attorney's office in St. Louis said Thursday that 48-year old Scott Walsh received that sentence Wednesday on one count of Receipt of Child Pornography. According to court documents, in September of 2017, both Shelbina and Kirksville police learned that Walsh had solicited child porn from a then twelve-year boy in Shelby County. The police and FBI discovered that Walsh, a registered sex offender, had befriended the boy, and given him presents. Walsh persuaded the child, after numerous and constant text messaging, to send Walsh a self-produced video which depicted child porn. The Kirksville Regional Computer Crimes Unit was able to forensically find the video on the child’s cell phone, as well as the many text messages Walsh had sent.

Walsh had previously pled guilty to Deviate Sexual Assault in an unrelated case in late 2004 in Boone County, Missouri and served five years in state prison.
