Marcus Mays will likely be tried in Adair County

A LaGrange man, charged with murder in the death last August of a child he was watching, will go on trial in late October, likely outside of Lewis County.

Marcus Mays was in Lewis County Circuit Court Thursday for a trial setting. A four day trial for Mays will be held starting October 28th. Court records show that while no official ruling was handed down, it's likely Mays's trial will be held in Adair County. His lawyer filed a motion last month for a change of venue. Mays has pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 2nd degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and drug possession. He was first charged after an incident in mid-August at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after allegedly being hit in the head numerous times. A preliminary autopsy report revealed in court blamed the child's death on Mays.

He's in the Lewis County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
