Acquitted of evidence tampering

A Callaway County jury has found a Columbia man Guilty of killing a Monroe County man in 2014.

Jason Lage was convicted late Thursday of 2nd Degree Murder and Armed Criminal Action in the shooting death of Zachary Dawson of Madison. The Hannibal Courier-Post reports that the jury in Fulton deliberated for over 8 hours before returning that verdict, along with an acquittal on one count of Evidence Tampering. The case was heard in Fulton on a change of venue. Lage was facing a 1st Degree Murder charge in the case, and was convicted in the fatal shooting, which happened at Dawson's home after a night of drinking in February 2014, when Lage allegedly held a gun to Dawson's head to intimidate him during a robbery, and it went off.

No date's been set yet to sentence Lage, who's being held in the Monroe County Jail.
