Lewis Co Sheriff's Office identifies man as Austin Clark, 20

A LaGrange man is in Blessing Hospital, after he shot himself when confronted by authorities in Lewis County Friday afternoon.

The man's identified as 20 year old Austin Clark, and the Lewis County Sheriff's Office says the incident happened on Monroe Street in LaGrange, after deputies tried to speak with him about several vehicle break-ins that morning. A report from the Sheriff's Office says that deputies were on their way to Clark's home when they saw him walking. Deputies say that Clark ran from them, and when he was 30 feet from them, Clark pulled a handgun from his waistband, and as he was running, shot himself. That gun, and a second gun, which were both reported stolen, were recovered.

Clark is suspected of breaking into multiple vehicles and homes in Canton and Lewis County, taking items such as jewelry, credit cards and the handguns. There's no word on his condition.
