Lane sentenced to 21 years for drug, burglary charges

Hearing on murder case delayed to October

A Hannibal man, accused of murdering a Hannibal woman in her apartment, will have to wait two months before finding out if a trial on that charge will take place.

Travis Lane faces a second-degree murder charge in the beating death last August of 28-year-old Jennie Jo Blankenship. A disposition hearing on that charge was planned for Friday in St. Charles County court, where the case was moved on a change of venue. However, a two month delay in that case was granted, to October 24th. Marion County Prosecuting Attorney David Clayton said in a statement that the hearing was delayed quote, "to reevaluate all of the State’s options." At a hearing in June, Lane's defense won a big victory when a motion to throw out his confession was granted, because Lane told an officer he did it after he'd asked to have a lawyer present.

Lane was sentenced Friday to 21 years in prison after pleading Guilty in June to possession of cocaine and second degree burglary charges. Lane was arrested on those charges three days after Blankenship’s body was found. Clayton had asked for the maximum 45 year sentence, but said that he's confident that Lane will spend the rest of his life behind bars.
