Trial for Marcus Mays in Adair County delayed to April 26

A LaGrange man, charged with murder in the August 2018 death of a child he was watching, has had his April trial delayed.

Records show that on Friday, a teleconference between prosecutors and a defense attorney for Marcus Mays was held in Lewis County Circuit Court. Both agreed to delay Mays's four-day trial in Adair County set for April 26th. It's the third time the trial's been delayed. A hearing will be held in Lewis County Friday to set a new trial date. Mays is being tried in Adair County on a change of venue from Lewis County. He's pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 2nd degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and drug possession. Mays was first charged after an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after allegedly being hit in the head numerous times. A preliminary autopsy report revealed in court blamed the child's death on Mays.

He's in the Marion County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
