James Keith of Philadelphia sentenced on one count of statutory sodomy

A Marion County man, who’s pleaded Guilty to a sodomy charge involving a child, may spend the rest of his life in prison.

54-year old James Keith of Philadelphia was sentenced Thursday to 27 years in prison at a hearing in Marion County Circuit Court. The sentence was part of a settlement with prosecutors. Keith pleaded Guilty in late August to one count of Statutory Sodomy, less than two weeks before he was due to go on trial. Keith admitted having deviate sexual intercourse with a then-13 year old girl, sometime in October 2017. A probable cause statement says that after Keith was arrested in early November 2017, he also confessed to detectives with the Marion County Sheriff's Department. Court records say that the girl didn't wish to appear at the sentencing hearing.

Keith was previously convicted of the same charge in Lewis County in 1997.
