May unemployment down in Quincy, Adams Co

Down in most IL, MO counties

The latest numbers show that unemployment rates in Western Illinois and Northeast Missouri decreased slightly in May.

According to data released Thursday by the Illinois Department of Employment Security, unemployment in Quincy dropped by a tenth to 5 point three per cent. It dropped by two tenths to 4 point 8 per cent in Adams County, as well by two tenths in Hannibal and the combined Quincy-Hannibal job market. All area Illinois counties saw a drop in their May unemployment rate except for McDonough County, which rose by a tenth.

It was the same story in Northeast Missouri, where according to the state Department of Economic Development, most counties' unemployment rates dropped. That includes Shelby County, which dropped by 8 tenths of a per cent. Rates in Lewis and Monroe counties stayed unchanged, while the rate rose by two tenths in Knox County.
