1 week, 1 day ago by Scott Hardy

Will start as Interim Director March 4; will need City Council approval after 6 mos.

The former head of the Illinois Department of Employment Security will be staying in government after all.

Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore announced Friday that he's appointed Jeff Mays to serve as Interim Director of Administrative Services. In a statement, Moore said that Mays is "one of the most respected public servants in Quincy and in Illinois", and that his "unmatched service to Quincy and the state of Illinois will no doubt serve him well in this role.” Before serving as IDES Director, Mays was also an Illinois State Representative for five terms and Vice President of the Quincy School Board. Mays will start as DAS on March 4th, and will replace John "Skip" Bright, who stepped down effective February 1st. Mays says he's looking forward to working with both the city council and agency heads to "put together the next city budget and implement the new strategic plan.”

Mays, who will earn $75,000 a year, will serve as Interim DAS for 180 days, and then need to be confirmed by City Council.
