Accused of 2015 beating death above a Quincy bar
A July trial date has been set for a Quincy man facing a 2015 murder charge.
A July 23rd trial date was set Friday in Adams County Circuit Court for Derek McKenzie on one count of 1st Degree Murder. Also at Friday's hearing, Judge Debra Wellborn said she'd likely issue a ruling next week on whether information from a DNA expert hired by McKenzie's defense can be included in the trial. Last month, Wellborn gave the defense a May 15th final deadline to submit a full report from the expert, and said that if it wasn't ready, the case would proceed without it. McKenzie’s accused of beating Billy Graham to death with his fists, and a clamp, in an apartment above a Quincy bar in early December, 2015.
He's been in the Adams County Jail since his arrest that same day, and is being held on $5 million bond. McKenzie will be back in court June 26th.
