Median age of most Tri-States county residents going up

Median age of most Tri-States county residents going up

5 years, 9 months ago by Scott Hardy

Figures released Thursday by US Census Bureau

Just over half of the nation’s 531 counties that were getting younger between 2010 and July 2017 were in the Midwest, according to population estimates released Thursday from the US Census Bureau.

That trend includes three Northeast Missouri counties. Both Shelby and Pike Counties in Missouri show their population getting younger by up to 1.9 years, and Scotland County's population is getting younger by over 2 years. Most counties' population in the listening area is getting older by a range of 0.1 to 1.8 years. Clark and Monroe Counties in Missouri are ageing by up to 3.4 years, and McDonough County's population has aged by over 3.5 years.

The Census Bureau says the nation as a whole is getting older, and the continued aging of the country is consistent with the projected changes to the nation’s population through 2060. A county-by-county map is available below.
