River to rise a half-foot above flood stage this weekend

The National Weather Service says that minor flooding is now forecast for this weekend along the Mississippi River at Hannibal and several other locations.

The Weather Service says that at Hannibal, the river will go above the 16 foot flood stage Friday, and crest at 16 and a half feet Saturday night. At Louisiana, the river will rise above the 15-foot flood stage late Saturday morning, and crest at 15 point 6 feet Sunday morning. At Clarksville, the river will go above the 25 foot flood stage Saturday afternoon, and crest at nearly 26 feet Sunday afternoon. The Weather Service also says that at Quincy and Canton, the River will approach but not go over flood stage next weekend.

Meanwhile, the Weather Service says that this August, it will change how it measures flooding on the Mississippi River in several locations, including Quincy and Hannibal.

The Weather Service said Thursday that on August 5th, it will update flood stages for 7 different locations along the river. A statement says that the changes will reflect increases in flood stage. The Weather Service says that's an indication that earlier flood impacts have been mitigated in those communities and no longer exist. For Quincy, flood stage will change from 17 to 19 feet. At Lock and Dam 21, it will change from 17 to 18 feet. At Hannibal, flood stage will change from 16 to 17 feet. At Canton, flood stage will change from 14 to 15 feet. At La Grange, it will go down, from 18 to 17 feet. At Saverton, major flood stage will change from 22 to 24 feet.

The Weather Service says that no changes will be made at Louisiana, Clarksville and Winfield.
