24.8 foot crest at Quincy Tuesday night, 24.8 feet crest Friday morning at Hannibal
More changes have been made in when and how high the Mississippi River will crest in the WTAD listening area, and they've been lowered.
The latest prediction Thursday afternoon from the National Weather Service says that at Quincy, the Mississippi will now crest at 24.8 feet Tuesday night. That's down from Thursday morning's forecast, but will still tie the ninth highest crest ever at Quincy. Lock and Dam 21 will crest at 24 feet Tuesday morning. At Hannibal, the river will now crest at 24.8 feet early Friday morning. It will be the eighth-highest crest ever in Hannibal, and under the 25.1 foot level that forces Missouri 79 south of Hannibal to close. At Keokuk, a crest of 21.3 feet is now expected Sunday afternoon, 12 hours earlier than first thought. That will force Lock and Dam 19 to close. At Canton, a crest of 21.3 feet's expected early Tuesday morning. At La Grange, a crest of 22.1 feet is now expected Monday night. Down river at Lock and Dam 22 at Saverton, they're expecting a crest of 24 feet Thursday night.
At Louisiana, a crest of 22.6 feet is expected early Friday morning. That's just under the level where the east approach to the Champ Clark bridge in Illinois begins to flood.
