Three days of hearings in Jeff City start February 20

The Missouri Public Service Commission says it will hold hearings in February over a proposed high-voltage power line to run through Marion, Lewis and three other Northeast Missouri counties.

The PSC said Friday that three days of public hearings over the Mark Twain Transmission Line will be held in Jefferson City starting February 20th. Ameren Transmission Company of Illinois wants to build a 345 kV line from Palmyra, through Marion, Lewis, Knox, Adair and Schuyler counties to the Iowa border. Ameren Transmission also wants to build a sub-station near Kirksville. The company plans to use existing power lines for 90% of the project, already owned by Northeast Power and Ameren Missouri. The County Commissions in all five counties have given their approval to the plan.

The PSC says it will also hold local public hearings, likely sometime next year. If approved, the power line will likely be up and running by the end of 2019.
