The only female GOP candidate for Missouri's 18th District Senate seat says her business experience gives her an edge in the August 7th primary. Scott Hardy has more.

Cindy O'Laughlin of Shelbina made the statement Wednesday during an appearance on WTAD's News Round Table. O'Laughlin, a co-owner of O'Laughlin's Incorporated, says some of the skills she's learned as a business owner will help her in Jefferson City.

O'Laughlin says that getting rid of government protections for certain business sectors in the state is the driving force behind her being a candidate. O'Laughlin also wants an expansion of rural broadband access, saying a careful study of the state budget should find the money to set up a public-private partnership.
