Says he wants system in place before he steps down in 2021

Quincy Mayor Kyle Moore says that by the end of his term, he'd like all City employees to be on a PTO system for their vacation and sick days. Scott Hardy has more.

Moore made the comments Monday night after the the City Council approved a first reading of an ordinance that would lower the total number of sick days for firefighters to use from 90 to 45. It's part of a three-year labor deal the city reached earlier this month with Firefighters Local 63. The ordinance also buys back 20 sick days for the Machinists Union and non-union city employees. Moore said the ordinance will help to lower the city's $1.8 million obligation for buy-backs, and he hopes to make the change to a PTO system before he leaves office in 2021.

Moore says that the city budgeted just under $650,000 this year for sick-day buy backs. He says he wants to shrink down the $1.8 million total obligation as much as possible.

The ordinance will be up for a final vote in two weeks.
