Murder trial for La Grange man now set for May 2020

Murder trial for La Grange man now set for May 2020

4 years, 6 months ago by Scott Hardy

Marcus Mays will be tried in August 2018 death of 2-year old Taylen Allen

A LaGrange man, charged with murder in the death last August of a child he was watching, will go on trial next spring.

Marcus Mays was in Lewis County Circuit Court Thursday, where a four-day trial will be held, starting May 26th. That's according to the Lewis County Circuit Clerk's Office. The new trial dates comes after a defense request to delay a trial starting October 28th for Mays was granted last month. He will likely be tried in Adair County Circuit Court on a change of venue request by Mays's defense. Mays has pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 2nd degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and drug possession. He was first charged after an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after allegedly being hit in the head numerous times. A preliminary autopsy report revealed in court blamed the child's death on Mays.

He's in the Lewis County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
