Marcus Mays accused of murdering 2-year old girl in 2018

A LaGrange man, charged with murder in the August 2018 death of a child he was watching, will now go on trial next year.

At a trial setting held Friday via phone in Lewis County Circuit Court, dates for a five-day trial for Marcus Mays were set, starting January 24, 2022. The trial will be held in Adair County on a change of venue from Lewis County. Mays has pleaded Not Guilty to counts of 2nd degree murder, child abuse, child endangerment and drug possession. Mays was first charged after an incident in mid-August 2018 at his trailer where he was watching 2-year-old Taylen Allen. Mays was arrested after the child was taken to Blessing Hospital with severe injuries. She died five days later at Children's Hospital in St. Louis, after allegedly being hit in the head numerous times. A preliminary autopsy report revealed in court blamed the child's death on Mays.

He's in the Marion County Jail on $1 million cash-only bond.
