Neighbors near Adams Co. gun range can do more than County Board

2 months, 1 week ago by Scott Hardy

Lack of zoning, ordinances main reasons

The Adams County Board has learned that when it comes to a gun range outside of Quincy, neighbors have more of a say than they do. Scott Hardy has more.

The Board Tuesday night re-visited a topic from August's meeting, involving the RKBA gun range on Ellington Road. That's about four miles northeast of Quincy. Neighbors had told the Board last month that the range was too loud, and about 20 of them had signed a petition saying they wanted it closed. The full Board heard from 1st Assistant State's Attorney Todd Eyler, who told them what he told the Legislative Committee last week - that without county-wide zoning or new ordinances, neighbors can do more than the County Board.

After the meeting, Eyler explained more about what the neighbors can do.

Eyler said that neighbors could also complain to the Illinois Pollution Control Board, if they feel that the level of noise is too high.
