NWS lowers, delays flood crests along Mississippi

Most areas will see a crest next week

The National Weather Service says that flood levels on the Mississippi River in our area won't get quite as high as first thought, and that most areas won't see a crest until next week.

The Weather Service revised its' forecast Monday on the Mississippi, saying that at Quincy, the river will now crest at 23 feet even next Monday night. Lock and Dam 21 will see a crest of 22.4 feet early next Tuesday morning. At Hannibal, the River will crest at 21.7 feet Tuesday night, and again early next Tuesday morning. Keokuk will also see the Mississippi crest twice at 18.9 feet. Those crests will happen tonight, and Sunday morning. At Canton, the river will crest at 20 feet even next Monday, and at La Grange, it will crest next Monday night at 20.4 feet. Saverton will still see major flooding, with a crest next Tuesday morning of 22.4 feet.

At Louisiana, the Mississippi will crest at 21.3 feet next Tuesday afternoon.
