Over 100 Illinois school districts sued over mask mandates

Over 100 Illinois school districts sued over mask mandates

Eleven West-Central Illinois schools are in the suit, including QPS

An attorney who's already brought legal action against the Quincy Public Schools, Blessing Health System and Quincy Medical Group over their quarantine and vaccination policies, has now sued over 100 schools in the state including 11 West-Central Illinois schools, over their mask mandates.

Attorney Thomas DeVore filed the lawsuit last Friday in Macoupin County Circuit Court against the schools, which include QPS, Central, Liberty and Payson in Adams County. Other districts in the suit include Carthage Elementary, Illini West High School and Warsaw in Hancock County, Pikeland and Pleasant Hill in Pike County, Macomb schools and Schuyler-Industry in Rushville. Seven parents of QPS students are named in the suit. DeVore is asking for a permanent injunction against Governor J.B. Pritzker's mask mandate for schools, issued in late August. In the suit, DeVore is asking that the mandates be made invalid. Other demands in the suit are similar to what an Adams County judge agreed to in September, including requiring a quarantine order from a local Health Department before a child is held out of class longer than 48 hours.

A hearing in the Blessing and QMG suit is set for next Tuesday. Earlier this month, three parents dropped their suit against QPS.
