Pike County murder trial set to get under way Monday

Charles Allen accused of fatally stabbing Donald Collerd in his Pleasant Hill home

Jury selection was set to start Monday in the trial of a Louisiana, Missouri man, accused of fatally stabbing a Pleasant Hill man in late March.

Charles Allen will be in Pike County, Illinois Circuit Court for the start of his trial, which is expected to last 5-6 days. Allen faces two counts of 1st Degree Murder and one count of Aggravated Battery in the fatal stabbing of 65-year old Donald Collard. Charging documents filed by prosecutors say that Allen stabbed Collard multiple times in the chest on the night of March 26th. Collard was pronounced dead at the scene at a home in the 600 block of Orrill Street in Pleasant Hill. Allen is in the Pike County, Illinois Jail on $2 million bond.

If convicted on all charges, he could be sentenced to a minimum of 43 years in prison.
