Any trial for David Sampley won't happen for months

A Pittsfield man, charged with murder in the death of a Pittsfield woman, has had his arraignment date set for later this month.

A December 17th date was set Tuesday for David Sampley. He was recently in Pike County Illinois Circuit Court on two counts of 1st Degree Murder, a Class X count of Aggravated Criminal Sexual Assault and counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery by strangulation and Domestic Battery. At the hearing, Sampley's defense waived his right to a speedy trial, meaning any trial won't happen until well into 2020. Sampley's currently being held by the Illinois Department of Human Services while he continues to receive treatment, after being found fit for trial. He was charged with the murder counts in late July 2018, a month after he was first found unfit. A probable cause statement says that Sharon Welch was strangled with a sock down her throat, and had her chest stomped last June 4th. Sampley was arrested after authorities found Welch's body in a home in the 600 block of Clarksville Road.

Sampley’s being held on $2 million bond.
