Additional 340 beds would be added in six-year capital plan

Illinois Governor JB Pritzer has further committed to re-building the Illinois Veterans Home in Quincy, as part of a newly-released capital spending plan.

Pritzker released the preliminary plan Friday to legislators, which calls for over $41 billion in spending over the next six years. Pritzker calls the plan Rebuild Illinois, and in it, he plans to spend $230 million to re-construct the home, first built in 1886. The plan calls to build "a new nursing home and domiciliary on the Quincy Veterans’ Home campus", saying it will provide for 340 additional beds. Currently the Vets Home has over 380 residents, and employs over 500 people. The reconstruction was called for after four straight years of outbreaks of Legionnaires' Disease on the home, starting in 2015. In all, 13 residents died as a result.

The plan also calls for a new science building for Western Illinois University in Macomb, and 10 million dollars to buy flood-prone properties. The plan is below .
