5 years, 2 months ago by Scott Hardy

Jury could get the case by Tuesday afternoon

The prosecution has rested its' case in the 1st Degree Murder trial of a Quincy man, accused of fatally shooting another man in 2015.

Two witnesses were called Friday morning in the trial of Steven Gavin in Adams County Circuit Court. Pathologist Doctor Scott Denton testified that Carlous Wires was shot twice in the head, and that either shot could be considered fatal. A former Illinois State Police fingerprint technician who was at the crime scene after the shooting, testified that none of Gavin's prints, or those of Wires or his wife, were found at the crime scene. That's after a Quincy Police Department technician testified Thursday that none of Gavin's DNA was found at the scene. Gavin is accused of fatally shooting Wires, then robbing him in his North 4th Street home in November 2015, in a disagreement over a drug sale.

After a break in the trial Monday, the jury is expected to get the case by Tuesday afternoon.
