Carlous Wires's widow, daughter testify

The widow of the Quincy man, found dead in his home in November 2015, has testified that she did not murder her husband.

Vivian Wires testified Wednesday morning as the prosecution started presenting its' case in the 1st Degree Murder trial of Steven Gavin in Adams County Circuit Court. According to our news-gathering partners at KHQA-TV, Wires made that statement after the defense revealed that gunpowder residue had been found on her hands shortly after the shooting. Also testifying was Carlous Wires's daughter Shelby about a recorded voice lineup conducted last week by Quincy police. She identified Gavin as the man she briefly talked to on her cell phone the night of the alleged murder.

Gavin's pleaded Not Guilty to four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Armed Robbery. He's accused of shooting Carlous Wires twice in the head, and then robbing him in his home in the 700 block of North 4th Street in November, 2015, due to a disagreement over a drug sale.

The trial's expected to last through next Wednesday.
