Public hearing set for possible IL 57 improvements

Public hearing set for possible IL 57 improvements

Hearing August 12 4-6 P.M. at Atrium Hotel on Third, 201 South 3rd in Quincy.

The Illinois Department of Transportation says it will hold a public hearing next month on possible improvements to Illinois 57 in Quincy and Adams County.

IDOT announced Friday that it would host an open house informational meeting for the public Thursday August 12 from 4 to 6 P.M. at the Atrium Hotel on Third, at 201 South Third Street. IDOT says they'll give people the chance to learn and provide input about their planning study for Illinois 57 from Broadway in Quincy, to Interstate 172 south of Marblehead. IDOT Engineer Jeff Myers says the hearing is the first step to identify what improvements along the 13-mile section of highway would be feasible. The City of Quincy has asked IDOT to modify 3rd Street at the approach to the proposed new Memorial Bridge at Jersey Street. They'd like 3rd Street to be widened so it can be a two-way street from Broadway to the Oakley-Lindsay Center. Both City and County officials would also like to see Illinois 57 be widened to a four-lane highway from south of Quincy to I-172. IDOT says there will be a draft Purpose and Need statement, exhibits, and an informational video, which will run continuously throughout the event. IDOT staff and project team members will be available to discuss the study and answer questions.

Another public hearing is likely to be held next summer, and a final report isn't due until the winter of 2022.
