Direct TV should clone this guy

If you’re like me it burns you to no end to see outfits like Direct TV offer a “new subscriber” the moon, stars, and a lifetime order of fries to sign up for their service the first time.  So, over the weekend I called the folks at Direct TV and challenged them to explain my current deal versus the Black Friday offer.

They couldn’t.

After a few uncomfortable moments on the phone I asked the person on the other end (his English was perfect) just to cut my channels to the bare minimum, keep my bill under $65.00 a month and call it a day.  Five minutes, and one additional supervisor later the deal was done.  Or so I thought.

Rather than wait I decided to spot check my new channel arrangement and was I surprised!  Seems I had gone from 145 channels to almost nothing.  I didn’t even have ESPN.  And most homes can receive ESPN on almost any appliance in the home!

So, feeling a bit like a moron, I called Direct TV back and connected with what may be the best customer service rep ever.  After I explained what had just happened and my displeasure with the way Direct TV does business he said the most amazing thing. “Hey, I hear this all the time.  You and I are going to put something together that’s going to work for you.  Because the last thing I want is for you to be paying for channels you don’t watch.”

Color me stunned!!  By the way, my DTV rep, we’ll call him Bob, sounded just like the comedian Kevin Hart.  He laughed a lot and said some funny stuff.  By the end of the conversation we were talking about Alabama football and all kinds of “guy stuff.”

Here’s what we’re going to do,” Bob said.  “I’m going to put you on a 12 month fifty-dollar a month credit which will bring your bill down to XXXX.  Oh, and you still have another 4 months remaining with an additional five-dollar credit, so your bill for the next 4 months will be even lower.”

Wow!  I was beyond impressed. In about 10 minutes my new best friend Bob had put things back in order, brought my monthly bill in at about ten bucks under what I was used to paying and provided me with just what I was looking for.   And he got it all up and running while I was still on the phone.

After thanking him I asked Bob if he had a direct line so I could call him with any future issues.  “I don’t,” he answered with a laugh. “If I had a direct line I would never get out of here.  Hey, it’s been fun visiting with you Mike and we at Direct TV appreciate your business.”

And that was the first time in over 8 years with Direct TV I can ever remember hanging up and feeling like someone at Direct TV actually gave a damn.
