Augusta FPD also gets $150,000
Two area fire departments, including the Quincy Fire Department, have received Federal grants to help with equipment, vehicles and training.
The QFD will get over $382,000, while the Augusta Fire Protection District will get just over $150,000. The grants were announced Tuesday by U.S. Senators Dick Durbin and Tammy Duckworth of Illinois. They said that the money from the Department of Homeland Security is part of $1.1 million in grants, awarded to 10 communities across Illinois through the Assistance to Firefighters Grant program. It provides first-responder organizations with the ability to obtain much-needed emergency response equipment, personal protective equipment, firefighting and emergency vehicles and training.
Durbin and Duckworth say that the money state-wide will be used for operations and safety including personal protective equipment, modifications to facilities, and supplies that support firefighting and non-affiliated EMS operations and safety.
