Will help start program at QHS

The renewed Ag program at Quincy High School got a shot in the arm Wednesday.

That comes from a donation from Landmark Irrigation through the Quincy Public Schools Foundation. Clinton Sutter of Landmark Irrigation said startup ag progrmas like the one at QHS have Landmark's full support. Quincy Area Vocational and Technical Center director Mark Pfleger says the program came about as a way to offer more opportunities to students now that ninth graders are moving into the high school and that the program fills a need in the community.

"We are in such an agriculturally-dominated area - it's a huge part of the labor market sector here in Western Illinois -  and we just felt we needed to be serving that, because that's what we're about," he said.

Pfleger said the space was available and there is a green house at the school, and as a bonus -there was already an Ag teacher at the Junior High School in Kelly Weiman, who will run the program at QHS.
