QMG files response to hospital denial

61-page document filed Monday disputes Review Board findings

Quincy Medical Group has provided an Illinois licensing board with more information, as it tries to overturn a denial of its' request to build a hospital in the Quincy Town Center.

Records show that on Monday, QMG filed a 61-page document with the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board. That document claims that if it's built, the 28-bed hospital would "transform care delivery, introduce needed choice, and meaningfully improve the community's access to quality, affordable care." QMG claims that the $61 million hospital would pay for itself over 20 years, due to the savings it would generate. QMG also says that the hospital would not duplicate care and would not impact Blessing Hospital. The Review Board rejected QMG's request in May, agreeing with a report issued by its' staff. That report said that QMG's hospital would result in a "unnecessary duplication of service" in the Quincy area, and that QMG didn't identify any un-met needs that would be served by the new hospital. That report also pointed out that Blessing Hospital is already under-utilized, and that the area's population is expected to decrease by 4 per cent by next year.

The Review Board's staff will now write a report on QMG's new information, and submit it to the full Board. There's no word when that will be completed. You can see QMG's new information below.
