QMG still not in compliance on three issues for new Surgery Center

QMG still not in compliance on three issues for new Surgery Center

State Review Board staff issued supplemental report Tuesday

A staff report from the Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board says that after submitting additional information about its' proposed new Surgery Center, Quincy Medical Group is still not in compliance on three out of four criteria cited in its' last report.

That staff report, released Tuesday, says that QMG is now in compliance in terms of the reasonableness of project costs. The staff noted that a CT Scanner that QMG plans to install was mis-categorized in its' previous report, thus bringing down the project's movable equipment costs. The staff report says though that QMG has not addressed three other areas. They include the company's financial viability, accessibility of service and the new Surgery Center's impact on the current Surgery Center run by Blessing Hospital. The staff report says that QMG does not have enough cash on hand, according to its' rules. It also says that both Blessing Hospital and its' current Surgery Center aren't at target capacity for procedures, and that the new Center would negatively impact Blessing and the current Surgery Center, saying it would lead to a duplication of services. QMG wants to build a new Surgery Center in the former Bergner's building in the Quincy Mall. Work will start soon on its new Cancer Center on the first floor. QMG plans to appeal the Board's Intent to Deny vote at its' next meeting on April 30th.
