If approved, $19.5 million project would open in 2021 in former Bergner's building

Quincy Medical Group intends to hold two public hearings next month on its' plans to open a $19.5 million surgical center in the former Bergner's building in the Quincy Mall.

The Illinois Health Facilities and Services Review Board announced Wednesday that QMG will hold two public hearings January 24th. Those hearings will be held in the Quincy Public Library's Large Meeting Room, from 1 to 3 PM and from 4 to 6 PM. The hearings were requested in mid-November by Blessing Hospital, in a letter to the Review Board. QMG wants to lease and renovate the nearly 27,000 square foot Bergner's building and use it for a new Surgery Center with 8 rooms. Those would include Endoscopy, Cardiac Catheterization, Ophthalmology Laser Surgery and operating rooms to support all surgical specialties. There would also be a Cancer Center with chemotherapy and radiation oncology. The QMG oncology team and all supporting services would move to the new location.

The Surgery Center will go before the Review Board for approval when it meets March 5th. If approved, renovation would begin with an expected completion by March 1st, 2021.
