QPS breaks ground on 2nd & 3rd new K-5 schools

7 years, 1 month ago by Scott Hardy

Both expected to be done by Fall 2018

The Quincy Public Schools have marked the beginning of construction for two K through 5 Elementary Schools with groundbreakings Monday morning.

Those ceremonies were held for school sites at 48th & Columbus Road and on North 12th Street, the second and third of five elementary schools to be built by the district. Superintendent Roy Webb says the two schools will be completed and ready for students by the Fall of 2018. Right now, architects and engineers say construction is ahead of schedule and they're under budget. Work began on the first K-5 Elementary at the Monroe Site in December, 2015. It's expected to be complete by this summer. Students will move to that school starting this August.

New boundaries and teachers have not yet been assigned for the five new schools, but Superintendent Webb said those decisions should be made by the School Board later this week.
