Hopes to have new bids by end of September

The Quincy Public School District's Building committee has said No to bids submitted to build a new school on the ADM site.

The Committee met Tuesday morning to make a recommendation on bids that were opened last week to build the new school on Quincy's northeast side. However, all the bids submitted came in $1.1 million over what the district had budgeted for. District officials say they'll start the re-bidding process on the 20 acre site immediately, and they hope to have new bids in by the next committee meeting September 27th.

The new school is slated to be built at 30th and Locust, on land donated to the the district in 2015 by Archer Daniels Midland. Also during the meeting, Klingner and Associates revealed final design plans for the new elementary school that will be built on 15 acres of land on North 12th Street, just west of Hamann Lane. The schools are part of the $89 million bond issue approved by Quincy voters in 2014.
