Estimates released by US Census Bureau

Info released Thursday from the US Census Bureau shows that Quincy and Hannibal saw population decreases in 2016.

The latest estimates show that Quincy's population in 2016 was 40,531. That's 200 less than 2015, and three hundred less than in 2011, when Quincy was estimated to have 40,800 residents. In Hannibal, the decline wasn't as steep, with the city's 2016 population at 17,808. That's down 20 people from 2015, and down 100 from the 2010 Census. Keokuk's estimated population is 10,431, down 150 from 2015. Similar figures were shown in Macomb, whose 2016 population of 18,352 was down nearly 200 from 2015.

The Census Bureau says that in 2016, population in all Midwest small towns declined by .3 percent.
