The Council Monday night approved a bid of just over $1 million from Rees Construction to repair water mains, replace sewers and re-pave a section of North 18th Street from Chestnut to Maple Streets. That area is just north of Quincy University and includes QU Stadium. City Engineer Jeffrey Conte says he hopes to start on the sewer project within a month, and get that done by the first hard freeze. The water mains and street repairs would happen next year.

Conte says there will be detours on that section of North 18th while the work is being done.

In a separate project, the City also plans to update the traffic lights at 18th and Chestnut. The Council also accepted a low bid of nearly $36,000 to demolish 613 North 7th, 517 Sycamore and 705 Washington through the city's Fix or Flatten program.
