Down 1.5% in sales tax revenue

Nearly half-way through the City of Quincy's current fiscal year, revenues are still trending downward. Scott Hardy has more.

That assessment comes from Mayor Kyle Moore, who said after Monday night's meeting that so far, the city's down 1.5% in sales tax revenue compared to last year. Moore, who blames the sales tax shortage on increased internet sales, also said that the city's getting less from the state of Illinois.

That could be anywhere between $800,000 to $1 million. Moore says he's not going to count the extra payments the state plans to make to the city, until they arrive.

Moore says the city will likely end this fiscal year about $100,000 to $150,000 short in revenue. Planning for next year's city budget will start in December.
