Closure result of Sears Holdings Chapter 11 filing

Another national big-box retailer will close a store in Quincy by the end of the year.

Sears Holdings announced Monday that it would close the Kmart store in Quincy, as part of its' Chapter 11 bankruptcy filing, made earlier in the day. A Liquidation sale at the store is expected to begin within two weeks, according to court documents. Kmart is the latest big-box store in Quincy to close, following closures earlier this year of both the Sears and Bergner's stores in the Quincy Mall, and the JC Penney's store closing in 2017.

The closing is also part of Sears Holdings plans to close another 142 unprofitable stores across the country. The company has 687 stores remaining, including Kmart locations. It's possible that all of Sears's stores could close if the company fails to reach a re-structuring agreement in bankruptcy.
