Steven Gavin accused of shooting, robbing Carlous Wires, Sr.

A January trial date's been set for a Quincy man, accused of murder in the 2015 shooting death of Carlous Wires, Senior.

Steven Gavin was in Adams County Circuit Court Wednesday for a status hearing with new lawyers Drew and Casey Schnack. Gavin will go on trial starting January 14th. His trial has been delayed for over a year, due to several legal maneuvers, and after several weeks of hearings where Gavin has said he didn’t want to be represented by the Public Defender's office. That includes one attorney who Gavin thought had a conflict with one likely prosecution witness, and a 2nd possible trial witness. Gavin's pleaded Not Guilty to four counts of First Degree Murder and one count of Armed Robbery. Prosecutors say Gavin shot and killed Wires, and then robbed him in his home in the 700 block of North 4th Street in November, 2015, due to a disagreement over a drug sale.

Gavin remains in the Adams County Jail on $5 million bond, and will next be in court November 28th.
