Robert Sparks pleaded Guilty but Mentally Ill to two counts
A Quincy man, indicted last March on six counts over an incident that caused Blessing Hospital to be locked-down, has pleaded Guilty to two counts and is going to prison.
Robert Sparks was in Adams County Circuit Court Thursday, where he pleaded Guilty but Mentally Ill to counts of Aggravated Domestic Battery and Aggravated DUI. As part of a settlement with prosecutors, counts of Domestic Battery, Aggravated Fleeing and both Felony and misdemeanor Aggravated Assault were dropped. Sparks admitted battering a woman in late-February 2018 at a home in the 500 block of North 22nd Street in Quincy. After the plea, Sparks was then sentenced to 12 years in prison. He also gets credit for over 300 days he's been held in the Adams County Jail. The Guilty but Mentally Ill plea means that Sparks will receive treatment from the Illinois Department of Corrections.
Sparks was arrested after a high-speed chase on 30th Street that ended in the parking lot of Knapheide Manufacturing's headquarters.
